chemical peel benefitsThink of it as peeling away or reversing the signs of aging. The signs of aging naturally become more prominent as we age – we’re talking wrinkles, fine lines, and more.  But you can do something about that, without surgery. Chemical peels work, and for more than aging concerns.  Here at Feinstein Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery in Delray Beach, chemical peels is one of our specialties in our Aesthetic Center.

Chemical peels are a fan favorite here, and we’re not alone in that affinity.  According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, they’re among the top five cosmetic minimally invasive procedures performed in 2017.  They address a wide range of skin issues, and that’s just one of the many The Benefits of Chemical Peels.

What Are Chemical Peels?

A chemical peel is a skin resurfacing treatment that will improve collagen production and give you smoother, regenerated skin. It involves an aesthetician applying a chemical solution to your skin, which causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off – hence the name chemical peel.  The cosmetic treatment can be applied to the face, neck, and hands.

The Many Benefits of Chemical Peels

There are many reasons why chemical peels are so popular.  For starters, they can address and help improve several skin conditions and concerns, including the following:

  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles
  • Acne or Acne Scars
  • Irregular Skin Pigmentation
  • Rough Skin and Scaly Patches
  • Certain Scars
  • Sun-damaged Skin

Types of Chemical Peels

There are basically three types chemical peels, addressing various needs, and when determining which peel would work best for you, we take into consideration your skin type, your desired outcome or aesthetic goals, and your lifestyle. Here are the kinds of peels:

  • Light Peel (or lunchtime peel): Dryness, acne or fine wrinkling, uneven pigmentation
  • Medium Peel: Acne scars, uneven skin color
  • Deep Peel: Facial wrinkles, sun-damaged skin, scars, blotchiness, pre-cancerous growths

Quick Results

Results can vary, depending on different factors, but overall, chemical peels can give you quick results. And while the results might not be permanent, you can help protect your new skin by moisturizing properly and always protect your skin from the sun’s harsh rays.

Realistic Goals of Chemical Peels

Let’s talk expectations and aesthetic goals. Chemical peels are excellent at regenerating your skin cells and literally giving your skin new life. However, there are some skin issues that a chemical peel cannot address. They don’t work for deep facial lines or wrinkles, nor do they significantly tighten loose or sagging skin, and they don’t work for removing deep scars.

With any cosmetic procedure – either nonsurgical or surgical, you have to manage expectations. And that’s one of the reasons you need to work with an experienced dermatologist office - Feinstein Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery in Delray Beach, for a chemical peel.

It’s the new year – the perfect time to start creating the new you. If you don’t like what you see in the mirror, it’s simple – do something about it. If you’re beginning to notice more fine lines and wrinkles, so is everyone else. But it’s not about them. It’s about you, and your desire to rejuvenate your skin.

We can definitely help you with that, here at Feinstein Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery in Delray Beach.  Anti-aging treatments are one of our passions, and the minimally invasive procedure - facial injectables, which help to diminish fine lines and wrinkles and restore volume and fullness are just what the doctor is not ordering but is highly recommending. The result is a more youthful appearance.

Injectables Are Very Popular

As a society, we can’t get enough of the injectables. In a report released last year by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the two categories of facial injectables – Botulinum Toxin (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin) and Soft Tissue Fillers, also known as dermal fillers led the way in the top five minimally invasive procedures performed in 2017. Both grow more popular, each year.

Try Botox to Target Wrinkles

Botox is a treatment that can temporarily smooth or reduce facial fine lines and wrinkles, on the brows, forehead and around the eyes (crow’s feet). It can also be used to lift the corners of the mouth and soften a square jawline. Here’s how it works: a licensed aesthetician injects the substance in target areas of the skin. The injections block nerve impulses, and weakens muscles, relaxes wrinkles and give the face a rejuvenated look.  You’ll start to notice an improvement within days, and its effect can last four to six months. If you’re wondering how to get rid of deep creases, you now have the answer: Botox.

The Beauty of Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are also called wrinkle fillers. These gel-like injectables are typically made from hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body that helps the skin maintain hydration. The procedure involves an aesthetician the substances right beneath the skin. Dermal fillers soften facial creases and wrinkles and enhance shallow contours. They can also be used to plump thin lips. The time in which you’ll start seeing results, along with the length of time the effects will last, varies, dependent upon the brand of dermal filler used, as well as the area of your face that was targeted in the procedure.  For example, Restylane will last about 6 or seven months, while Juvederm can last from six months to two years.

The Difference Between Dermal Fillers and Botox

Both Botox and dermal fillers are excellent at fighting the signs of aging, but there are distinct differences between the two. For starters, Botox is more of a facial muscle relaxer, and targets wrinkles, reducing their movement and visibility. While on the other hand, dermal fillers will help target those wrinkles that are always present on your face, even when your face is relaxed. And unlike Botox, dermal fillers help plump more volume into your face.

Wrinkles Be Gone!

Many people often want to know how to get rid of wrinkles. Facial injectables is a great start. When you come into the office for a consultation, Dr. Brian Feinstein, a board-certified dermatologist, will personally discuss all the available alternatives to find what treatments would be best for your skin type and your lifestyle.

While beauty can begin inside, for many people, what they see on the outside when looking into a mirror - wrinkles and other signs of aging - can impact their self-confidence. It’s time to reverse that and boost your confidence with Botox® - one of our most popular treatments here at Feinstein Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery in Delray Beach.

What is Botox®?

Botox® or botulinum toxin type A is an injectable used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial wrinkles. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), among the 15.7 million cosmetic minimally invasive procedures performed in 2017, Botox® was the most popular. Its numbers seem to grow in popularity each year.

Rejuvenate Your Face

Botox® is the first and only treatment FDA-approved to temporarily make moderate to severe frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines look better, less noticeable. The way it works is the injections block nerve impulses, and weakens muscles, relaxes wrinkles and gives the face a rejuvenated look. It is injected under the skin into many areas including the following:

  • Crow’s feet area/surrounding the eyes
  • Forehead/Brows
  • Mouth/Frown lines/worry lines

While it’s an injectable, don’t let the thought of a needle alarm you. The only thing you’ll feel is a little pinch.

How Long Will It Take and How Many Injections Will I Receive?

Getting Botox® injections are quick. You’ll notice an improvement with your skin within 24 to 48 hours. The results can last up to four months. Like all of the treatments and procedures we do here at Feinstein Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery, the Botox® treatment is customized and based on the patient’s goals and needs.  So, when you come in, we’ll discuss your concerns, along with your aesthetic goals.

Other Uses for Botox®

While Botox® was originally designed for aesthetic purposes, it has evolved and is now used to target other issues, including excessive sweating, called hyperhidrosis. If you suffer from excessive sweating of your palms, feet or any other body part, we can assist you.

When Should I Get Botox®?

Obviously, getting this popular anti-wrinkle treatment is a personal decision, and there’s much to consider. Many women start getting them at the first signs of fine lines and wrinkles, while younger women, more interested in prevention, sometimes start getting injections in their late 20s. Again, it’s a personal decision.

how to get rid of wrinkles on face

It seems like each time you glance into the mirror, you notice yet another wrinkle. You feel they're aging you, and it's time to do something about it. You may want to consider laser skin treatments to target facial wrinkles. Laser skin resurfacing is very popular, for many reasons. Here at Feinstein Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery in Delray Beach, we specialize in laser treatments for wrinkles and can share with you some insight on how to try to prevent and get rid of the wrinkles on your face.

The Causes of Wrinkles and Where to Find Them

While wrinkles are a natural part of aging, there are other factors that can accelerate their presence, such as genetics, sun exposure, smoking, poor nutrition, dehydration (alcohol dehydrates the skin), and not using moisturizers. The most common places wrinkles appear include:

  • Eyes: crow’s feet; between the eyes; underneath the eyes
  • Forehead: both vertical/horizontal wrinkles
  • Mouth/Lips: vertical wrinkles develop around the mouth and spread above and below the mouth
  • Neck: horizontal wrinkles mostly on the front of the neck, but can extend to the back
  • Chest: caused by sun damage and muscle-loss (can become very obvious when taking a selfie)

Younger people aren’t immune to wrinkles. At younger ages, regular facial expressions such as smiling, frowning, squinting, and even pouting, can cause fine lines and wrinkles.

Aging Prevention Tips

There are steps we can take to counteract the signs of aging and slow it down.  Check out these aging prevention tips, courtesy of the American Academy of Dermatology Association (AAD):

  • Protect your skin from the sun
  • Gently clean your skin
  • Use a self-tanner instead of getting a tan
  • Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet
  • Drink more water and less alcohol
  • Apply a facial moisturizer every day
  • Exercise most days of the week

Laser Skin Treatment is Great for Aging Skin

Let’s say you do everything in your power to prevent wrinkles, yet there they are – front and center.  You feel your best, and you’re in great shape. You even feel younger than your age – but, for those wrinkles. There is a number of ways to help smooth wrinkles, make them less noticeable, and even get rid of them altogether. Laser resurfacing is an excellent way to target wrinkles on and around your face. In the procedure, a wand-like laser instrument is used to direct short, concentrated beams of light to one’s skin, removing the upper layers of skin. The treatment also works well for reducing skin irregularities, such as acne scars or blemishes.  Here at our practice, we use Sciton lasers, industry leaders of high-quality laser and light systems. We can help you achieve optimal results.

Beautiful GirlBotox is a common and effective dermatological treatment to minimize the appearance of your fine lines and wrinkles and even prevent new wrinkles from forming at all. This treatment is fast and easy with no recovery time, making it ideal for almost anyone. Find out more about Botox with Dr. Brian Feinstein and Dr. Bridgit Nolan at Feinstein Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery in Delray Beach, FL.

What is Botox?
Botox is a cosmetic dermatological treatment which helps treat unwanted fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment injects Botox into the facial muscles. This paralyzes the muscles, decreasing their movement and allowing the skin on top of them to relax and smooth out. Because the muscles can no longer move, the skin cannot fold over them, which also prevents the formation of new wrinkles or fine lines.

What can I expect during a Botox treatment?
Before your Botox treatment, your dermatologist will cleanse your skin and create a plan of action for where you would benefit most from Botox injections. Then, they will use a super-fine needle to inject the Botox into your skin’s muscles. Most patients report a small pinch as the needle enters the skin, but often say this is not a painful procedure. After your treatment, which lasts only about 15 minutes, you may notice some redness or bruising around the injection sites which will normally resolve itself within a day or two.
